Mr. Edwards of Monterey House addressed the Community Appearance Board and said the residents of Monterey House are applying for a roof mounted satellite television antenna because they are interested in the develop- ment in the industry and wish to have control over programs they will be able to receive. Mr . Dan Vargas, Jr. , of Empire Group, Inc. , explained that the satellite dish will be 12 ' in diameter, made of expanded aluminum mesh and will be mounted 12" above the roof level to a height of 13 ' . The mounting was custom designed by engineers to withstand a wind tunnel effect and re- quires no roof penetration. The manufacturer of the mesh antenna said tests indicate it will withstand winds of 140 miles per hour. From a standpoint of performance, continued Mr. Vargas, the mesh antenna will be better than a solid antenna . The mounting will be very safe and sound and the satellite dish will not be visible from AlA. When Board Members questioned the cost of the system Empire is providing, Mr. Vargas said Monterey' s fee is $12, 000.00 for seven channels and Seagate ' s fee is $17, 000.00 for ten channels .
