REGULAR MEETING - MINUTES
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 , 1987 9: 30 A.M.
Vice Chairman Galizia called the Regular Meeting of the Community
Appearance Board, Town of Highland Beach, Florida, to order at 9: 30 A.M.
in the Commission Chambers at Town Hall .
The Town Clerk/Recording Secretary called the roll . Present were
Regular Members G. Galizia, F. Savino, A. Keller and Alternate Member M.
Dempsey who was acting as a Regular Member . Absent from this Meeting
were Regular Members H. Harris, L. Johnson and Alternate Member H. C.
Arnold.
Also present were Town Clerk/Recording Secretary M. A. Mariano and R.
Van Duren representing the Van Duren/Chernalis Project.
MOTION by MR. SAVINO/MR. KELLER to approve the Minutes of the August 27,
1987 Community Appearance Board Meeting carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
PRELIMINARY/FINAL LANDSCAPE REVIEW OF VAN DUREN/CHERNALIS DUPLEX AT
4214 SOUTH OCEAN BOULEVARD (LOT 4, BLOCK 2, BEL LIDO)
0, Plans for the Van Duren/Chernalis Duplex were reviewed by the Members.
The Plans indicate the roof will be grey concrete tile; the facade will
be two tones of grey with a mauve accent stripe. Stainless steel rail-
ings are proposed. The duplex will have two pools (one on the North
side and one on the South side) at the corners of the lot. The facade
will also have decorative pillars which will not affect the stability of
the roof trusses. Each unit will have a two car garage with entrances
on the side.
The landscaping on both the North and South sides are identical . Black
Olive Trees were discouraged and additional Callophyllums recommended.
Also, the Hibiscus will be replaced with Schefflera. Four Cabbage Palms
will be planted in between the driveways and four Norohonia Trees will
be planted along AlA between the bike path and the road.
The site will have heated hot tubs. Indirect lighting will be used both
under the soffits and at the entrance ways. Down lighting will be
provided at the pillars. Mushroom lighting will be placed at the
entrance and in the gardens. An irrigation system will be installed to
the satisfaction of the Community Appearance Board upon their site
inspection.
The following MOTION was made by MR. KELLER/MR. SAVINO:
7 "The Community Appearance Board has reviewed the drawings
submitted by the Durcher Estates. They are S1-Al-A2-A3-
A4-A5 and a landscaping planting plan which has no number ,

attached to application dated September 3, 1987 . In a
general way the drawings depict the facade, color samples,
construction details and lighting . The drawing covering
trees and shrubbery contain changes. These were accepted
by the owner and appear on the drawing along with his
signature and date. The Community Appearance Board sug-
gests approval of the above" .
This MOTION carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Vice Chairman Galizia noted that pursuant to the last Community Appear-
ance Board Meeting , a memorandum had been sent to Mr . Sutherland
requesting that the Community Appearance Board be provided with a status
report on the building in Town. Mr . Galizia noted that this report had
been received and the Board commended Mr . Sutherland on his prompt
response.
Vice Chairman Galizia noted that he felt there was some clarification
needed with regard to the Sign Ordinance and the electrical permitting
of permanent signs.
There was no report from the Greening Committee.
The next Regular Meeting of the Community Appearance Board was scheduled
for Thursday, October 29, 1987 at 9: 30 A. M. with the agenda closing on
Wednesday, October 14 , 1987 at noon .
The inspecting member for the month of October is Vice Chairman
Galizia.
Following proper MOTION, Vice Chairman Galizia adjourned the Regular
Meeting of the Community Appearance Board at 10: 45 A. M.
