BEACHES & SHORES ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING
Tuesday, May 8, 2007 9:30 A.M.
Chair Lucy Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were Betty Jane
Hofstadter, Ruth Samuels, and Gary L. Guertin. Vice Chair Martha Pando, Evelyn Weiss
and James Wanat were absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
April 17, 2007 meeting did not record on audio tape.
NEW/OLD BUSINESS
- Work shop meeting held April 17, 2007, discuss all items with the Board, and
bring to Vice Mayors attention.
- Milani Park beach area unsuitable for swimming, jagged, slippery etc., beach area
is suitable for snorkeling and fishing.
- Crossing Al A to get to Milani Park, should a traffic signal be installed there?
- Turtle population / cage the nest? Before hatching someone has to watch them
every 2 hours — volunteers?
- Asking the town to monitor the park, if this is done it would be just in front of
Milani Park, may ask the county to take over monitoring.
- Signage/Lifeguards/Crossing Guard?
- Will there be a need to hire more Police Officers?
- Impact on Police Force?
- Making Milani Park a Nature Facility.
- Recommend to committee everything focus on Milani Park as an education park.
- Sea grapes, can they be cut?
- Mangroves still on property.
- If someone is injured who is responsible?
- Send email when members of the board have information in their mails slots.
- Working on getting entire beach cleaned, cost $1.00 per sq. foot to clean beach.
- Come up with plan/standards for the beach, how to have a healthy beach plan.
- Workshop meeting — getting standard in place
- Petition w/cover letter will go to commission.
- Call those absent from meeting and tell them about workshop Tuesday 5/29/07 @
9:30a.m.
