Minutes. Highland Beach Town Commission. April 5, 1955 A regular monthly meeting, • The meeting was called to order by Mayor Smith at `7:35 p.m. Also present were Comm. Noble, Harmon and Hertwig. Minutes of the meeting of 3/1/55 were read and approved on motion of Comm. Noble, seconded by Comm. Harmon and the affirmative votes of all four Commissioners present. The clerk presented and read the resignation of-Comm. Skillman which follows; The Highlands, South Ocean Blvd Delray Beach, Florida, March 5, 1955 Town of Highland Beach Highland Beach, Florida Gentlemen; I hereby resign as Commissioner of the Town of Highland Beach, effective immediately. Very truly yours, Signed, Roger M. Skillman. Comm. Hertwig moved that Comm. SkillmanTs resignation be accepted and that the letter be placed in the Town files. Comm. A letter was read from the Town of Gulf Stream asking that municipal- ities cooperate with the Palm Beach County Commission in matters per- taining to preservation of the beaches. It was the concensus that the Town of Highland Beach should take any re~.sonable and practicable action possible to prevent and overcome beach erosion and Comm. ~iertwig moved .that the County Commission be advised to that effect, The motion was seconded by Comm. Harmon and adopted by the affirmative votes of all four commissioners present.. Mr. L. A. Viingle reported that serving as a taxpayer's committee he had called at the District EngineerTS Office of the State Road Dept to see what could be done to control excessive speeding on St Rd AlA. He said Mr. Winston Carlton toI him that the department would have a survey made of traffic conditions, if so requested by the Town. By general agreeme3~t the Town Clerk was requested to ask for the survey to be made. The Town Clerk advised that as of P2arch 3rd, he had received from the State Board of Health' approval of the February water samples. Hertwig advised that as di~±ected by the Commission, his surety bond had been increased from X5,000.00 to X10,000.00 Comm. Hertwig advised that he had made a preliminary call on Mr. Weber of the office of Brockway, Weber & Brockway, to advise him that the Town if feasible would install some kind of filtration, at the water works, this summer, to correct the present trpuble from red water, Mr. Don Ross, representing a taxpayers committee discussed his efforts to learn more about what is believed to be an allergic condition which seems to come from the ocean on strong east and northeast winds. Correspomdenee from the Florida League of Municipalities, about bills pending before the legislature, was tabled by general consent. There was discussion about the bad condition of the bridge on AlA over the Boca Raton Inlet and by general agreemnet the Town Clerk was reques- ted to find out from Attorney Byrd why that traffic bottle neck was not removed, The meeting was adjourned on motion of Comm.
