Completion of meeting recessed '7~5~55 Fyn '7~12~55.
The meeting was called to order at `7; 30 p.m. by Vice ~tiayor iIarmon. Also
present were Cormn. T?oble, ~'deber °° ~Iertwig. P;~ayor Smith was absent.
T;linutes of the meetings of July 5, 1955 amp July 12, 1955, v~rere read and
approved on motion of Comm, Noble, seconded by Comm. tiVeber, and the
affirmative votes of all four commissioners present.
Town Cleric Hertwig advised that as directed in the meetings of '7~5~55 and
'7~12~55, he had kept regular office hours at the Town Ha 11 from 8;00 a.m.
to 6;00 p.m, on the days of July 13th, 14th and 15th, so that any inter-
ested parties could examine the Tax Assessment Roll for 1955, but that no
such persons had appeared and that no objections had been filed concern-
ing the Tax Assessment Roll.
By general agreement the Town Clerk vaas requested to read prepared Resolu-
tion rr53, approving the Tax Assessment Roll for 1955. After the reading
of said Resolution x-53, Comm. Noble moved that it be adopted and Passed.
Comm. 'e1e'oer seconded the motion, which was then approved by the affirm-
ative votes of all four commissioners present,

The meeting was called to order by Vice-Pi~ayor Harmon at 8;00 p.m.
Also present were Comm. Noble, ~~"Jebe-r and ~?ertti^sig. T~~ayor Smith was absent.
T:?inutes of the meetings of July 5, 1955 and July 12, 1955 were read and
approved on motion of Commm. T'leber, seconded by Comm. T?oble and the
affirmative votes of all four commissioners present.
F or the purpose of completing the recordComm. T3ert~^sig referred to the
letter from Bessemer Properties under date of June 14, 1955 in which
they refer to the To~rm, a request of the Atlas Realty Corporation, for
release of deed restrictions. This letter and related matters have
previously been generally discussed at Cor.~~r~ission meetings but in the
absence of any comm~.~x-~ icat~.on from the Atlas .Realty Corp. to the Tot^an
Coraxrlission,r._o formal acticr_ '_-~~ls been taken.
Comsr:. ?ertwig reported receipt of a check for the amount of ~~531.58
from, the Florida rot^rer & Light Company, in payment of moneys due 1_xnder
the terms of their franchise.
There was fu._~~t'ner discussion of the matter of an alleged dog kennel at
Seacliff Cottages and 'oy general agreement the Totinm Clerk ti~:as requested
to call on r~Tr, Tjart see if the nuisance is continuing.
Comm. HerttnTig reported that in the matter of the proposed tinrater filtra-
tion plant he had explained t'ne need of the plant and full details cf
:it with Tr7r. Thomas ~v". C oolL and tivith To~rm Atto_r. ney C . Y. Byrd and that
both of them were in favor of the plan if t'ne Cor~~rnission i s convinced
that the proposed improvement is necessary. ??e then read prepared
Resolution ~ 52 t~~hich would authorize the planning and taking of bids
for the proposed. t"Dater Filtration Plant.
Af ter reading of Resolution. !52 and discussion of same, Comm. ?~?oble moved
t'nat it be approved. Comm. l~eber seconded the motion and it v~ras gassed.

for Water Filtration Plant.
ti"dT~EP,E.AS the 'u"Dater Supply of the Town sho~rrs a content of iron in sol-
ution, to an amount exceeding .3 parts per million;
AND tiVHERE~S such excessive quantity of iron is lrnown to be objectionable
for several reasons, among which are that it causes staining of clothing
and linens and plumbing fixtures;
ATSD WHEREAS a considerable number of users of the Town water have com-
plained of the said staining of clothing and plumbing fixtures.
AI`s Z'JI~REA.S the State Board f Health has requested the Totirn to take steps
to remove the excessive amout of iron from the ~~"Jat;~r ;~i,pply;
AI~TD ~"Ji:r;Rc,AS tcie ~_::~r_~ ;;o~r~nission, over a pAriod o: r:.a:.~e than two years
has tried by the simple addition of various chemicals, to control the'
troubles o~ the aforesaid excess iron but has not been able to accomplish
satisfactory results by such efforts;
Aiv'D b"JI~REAS the TOVJn Convnmission has had extensive consultations, on the
matte:r, m*ith the Tovan Engineers, Brockway, 4"Jeber w~ Broc~~vvay, and is con-
vinced that the troubles caused by the excessive iron in the ti~Jater Supply
can or_ly be corrected by the use of a proper filtration s~Tstem at the
~"Dater ~^Jorks;
• NGti°J T1TuREFORE BE TT RESOLVED by the Town Commission of the Town of HTGH-
LAi~ID BEACH, FLORIDA, that funds available for the purpose shall be appro-
priated and used to build, purchase, lease and install, t'ne buildings and
equipment necessary to provide a f iltra-tion plant to remove the excess
iron from the Town tiVater Supply;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Tovm _~ngineers, Brockway, Weber and
Brockway, be and hereby are authorized to proceed tivith the necessary eng-
ineering plans and spec if ications so that bids may be secured for the
'ouilding and installation of the aforesaid filtration system at a total
cost not to exceed T~IIRTv FIVE THOUSAND DGLLARS, {~~35,000.00)

d`J~iERFAS the Town Commission met as a Board of Equalizers at the Tovm
Hall in the Town of Highland Beach, on the 5th and 12th days of July
and the 2nd day of August, in the year 1955, and at said meetings
it heard any and all complaints or objections by taxpayers, in refer-
ence to the Assessed Valuations placed on the Tax Assessment Roll
by the Town Tax Assessor, and it was found that the Tax Assessment
Roll as prepared by the 1Tax Assessor, is fail, reasonable and just;
