The meeting was called to order at 7;45 by Mayor Smith; also pre-
sent were Comm. Noble, Harmon, Skillman & Hartwig. Mr. Due attended.
Minutes of the meeting of Bpril 7 were read and approved on motion
of Comm. Harmon, seconded by Comm. Noble and affirmative votes of
all five commissioners present.
On motion of Comm. Harmon, si~eondad by Comm. Noble and approved by
aff irmative votes of all five commissioners present, that as desig-
nated Superintendent of the Water Works Mayor Smith file an appli-
cation and become a member of the American Water Works Asstn in or-
der that the Town be better informed on water works problems etc,
On motion of Comm. Hartwig, seconded by Comm, Noble, and approved by
affirmative votes of all five commissioners present, the Treasurer
was authorized and directed to pay out of the Water Bonds Interest &
Sinking Fund, to the Chase National Bank of New York, the sum of
X2,000.00 to retire bonds ~~ & 3 which are due June 1~ 1953, and the
sum of X2,480.00 for interest and service charge also due on that date.
Comm. Hartwig read letter dated 5/1/53 from Engineer Brockway concern
ing the matter of "red water", which has currently had the attention
of the Commission... There was discussion of the problem,coneerning
• which the members of the Commission had recently held an informal talk
with H. L. Cromer and Mr. Gillespie of the firm of Smith 8c Gillespie.
At that conversation Mr. Gillespie proposed that for the sum of X700.00
his firm would examine all aspects of our water discoloration problem
and make appropriate recommendations for its correction if possible..
By general agreement it was decided that Mr, Brockway+s suggestions
were well founded and that for the time being the Commission would
proceed along those lines. On motion of Comae. Skillman, seconded by
Comm. Harmon and approved by affirmative votes of all five co~ission-
ers present, the Mayor was requested to appoint a committee to contin-
ue to investigate all angles of the "red water" difficulty and to r®-

The clerk read letter from Sarah D. Lawler, Librarian of the Circuit
Court, requesting copies for their files of our Town Ordinances. By
general agreement it was decided that Comm. Hartwig should talk to
Attorney Byrd about the request and get his suggestions and sae what
could be done to satisfy the request without needless cost and work.
On motion of Comm. Harmon, seconded by Comm. Skillman and approved
by affirmative votes of all five commissioners present, the meeting
was adjourned,
