PRESENTATIONS:
Judi Brodman -Desk Calendar Fundraiser
Chair Firtell introduced Judi Brodman who is the editor of the Cultural Advisory Board
Newsletter. Judi presented a monthly desk calendar that flips open which could be a
potential fundraiser for the board to consider. The calendars can be purchased in bulk of
1,000 at $2.10 each. The board would need to decide what to display on the calendar.
Displays to consider are paintings of local art work, historic highland beach photos, etc.
It would be a nice gift to give-a-way. The board discussed the possibility of a minimum
donation to receive the desk calendar. Chair Firtell stated that the board would need to
inquire of the Town Manager as to whether or not the board is allowed to have a
fundraiser.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
MOTION: Board Member Kelvin moved to approve the minutes of February 26, 2009. •
Board Member Kallman seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS:
Art Show
Board Member Kelvin reported that the event was quite successful. The art display will
come to a close on Tuesday of next week and Board Member Eidelson will be there to
assist Mr. Kelvin. Chair Firtell felt that the event was well orchestrated, lovely and a
great sampling of work. Vice Chair Feldman suggested that the future letter should
specify the type of art work that will be accepted for the show such as jewelry, sculptures,
paintings, and other forms of art.
At the first artist reception there were more people than expected. One or more
instructor(s) were present critiquing the art work. Chair Firtell thanked Board Member
Kelvin and Board Member Resnick for a job well done.
Swing Jazz
Chair Firtell reported that over 325 people attended and the majority of the people were
from Highland Beach. Chair Firtell noted the only area of improvement for future events
would be having volunteers arrive earlier. Board Member Kelvin suggested ordering
twenty-five (25) extra chairs next year. Chair Firtell thanked Bill Moore, •
Utility/Maintenance Supervisor and Beverly Brown, Town Clerk for their help in setting
up the event.
NEW BUSINESS:
Potential Artist
Vice Chair Feldman discussed the idea of potentially hiring a new artist and adding an
additional performance. Ms. Feldman felt that the Board should offer a variety and
something new to the townspeople. Victoria Atwater is a soprano with a beautiful voice
and gives a great performance. A moment was taken to listen to Ms. Atwater sing the
Phantom of the Opera via CD.
The board discussed whether or not they would like to have an additional musical
concert.
By consensus, the Board agreed to have Victoria Atwater attend the next regularly
scheduled meeting.
Chair Firtell asked the Deputy Town Clerk to produce the following information: fee
schedule for performers and an inventory of the banners in the Cultural Arts Room. Chair
Firtell asked Board Member Kelvin to send the Clerk a copy of the poster to place in a •

file at Town Hall and requested Judi Brodman to send the format of the newsletter to the
• Clerk.
Board Member Resnick reported that she has been approached by several people who
want to submit their art work next year, and they would like to teach watercolor and oil
classes.
Chair Firtell suggested offering another class to bring a different dimension such as
etching, photography or collage.
