CULTURAL SOCIETY BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES November 22 2005 1:30 p.m. Chair Emily Firtell called the Regular Meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. Also in attendance were members Bettie J. Altman, Riia Futernick, Gerry Pagliaro and Jack Glazer. Lois Feldman was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There were no minutes to be approved. NEW BUSINESS -GENERAL BOARD INFORMATION Mrs. Firtell met with international violin virtuoso, Segiu Schwartz, who is the Orchestra Conductor at Lynn University. Ms. Firtel has obtained his resume and composite of venues he has played. She has his CD for the Board to review. Chair Firtell will be passing out media information for the Boards review with a circulation sheet to be passed on within three days. OLD BUSINESS HOLIDAY CELEBRATION -Mrs. Futernick held a meeting with the volunteers who will be helping out at the December 11 event. A second meeting will be held to determine where they will be located. Mrs. Pagliaro designed banners, posters and flyers, of which all have a copy of the colored flyer. Posters will be placed in select locations. The banner in front of Town Hall will go up next week out of respect for Tom Reid, waiting until the mourning period is over. Mrs. Futernick recommended giving the volunteers lime green boutonnieres, carnations at $2.00 each plus delivery. Badges are also going to be used. MOTION was made by MRS. PAGLIARO/MR. GLAZER that the badges would be sufficient. Mrs. Altman, Mrs. Futernick and Mrs. Firtell voted yes. Motion passed 3/2 to have boutonnieres. Rain date: December 18. Matthew Asselta, classical guitar will play 5:30-6:15. Jennifer Worthy will sing a classical Hanukkah song; Josephine Dolche and lyric string quartet, will sing a holiday song, and other generic songs at 6:30. Matthew asselta will play Auld Lang Syne at the end with hopefully Zac Brown accompanying him. Mayor will welcome at 6:15, 6:25 lite the menorah, 6:30 tree lighting. Molly's Trollys will pick up at the Intracoastal across from the Holiday Inn and at St. Lucy Church. Police will conduct traffic control. Mr. Glazer recommended that a marine reservist be available to collect any toys that will be donated. MOTION was made to retain two marine reservist and for the residents to • bring an unwrapped toy. Motion carried unanimously. Cultural Society Board November 22 2005 Page 2 of 3 Kings Deli and Costo bakery will be donating cookies. Will serve egg nog and cider. There will beatable set up to talk about CSB sponsorships. Mrs. Pagliaro and Mr. Glazer to man table. A Special Meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, December 6 at 9:30 a.m. to wrap up arrangements for celebration. Sponsorship opportunities will be discussed at that time. MISSION STATEMENT/SLOGAN -use slogan on all materials: surveys, volunteer forms, marketing materials, etc. It was suggested that an item be placed in the Town's newsletter reflecting the Board's mission statement. MOTION was made by MR. GLAZER/MRS. ALTMAN to accept the slogan for the Board as: "HIGHLAND BEACH: A CULTURAL ENCLAVE AT THE WATER'S EDGE". Motion carried unanimously. VOLUNTEER FORM -tabled to December 6 meeting. ART CLASS/LOGO/SURVEY FORM -Mrs. Pagliaro created form for residents to sign up in areas of interest. Logos generally done by a graphic designer, of which their may be a resident who is one. A logo contest could be conducted, of which this could be • included in the January Highlander. In the meantime, the logo Mrs. Pagliaro created will be used. MOTION was made by MRS. ALTMAN/MR. GLAZER to have a logo contest and use the one presented currently without the surround box. Motion carried. The sign up sheet was accepted as is. Mari Suarez is agreeable to using the community room in the library for Art in Public Places. OTHER BUSINESS A special meeting has been scheduled for December 6. The next regular meeting will be December 22. PUBLIC COMMENTS -Town Manager Dale Sugerman broke down the expenditures for the Holiday celebration, which are as follows: $3,800 - Tree and Menorah $440 - sinage $700 - Nativity Scene $100-150 - delivery $400 - Molly Trollys • Cultural Society Board November 22, 2005 Page 3 of 3 ADJOURNMENT With no further business to come before the Board, MOTION to adjourn was made by MRS.
