2006.05.25_CAB_Minutes_Regular• CULTURAL SOCIETY BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES May 25. 2006 9:30 a.m. Chair Emily Firtell called the Regular Meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were members Gerry Pagliaro, Riia Futernick, Lois Feldman, Bettie Altman, Jack Glazer and Syril Morss. Also present were members of the general public. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon MOTION by MR. GLAZER/MRS. PAGLIARO, the following sets of minutes were unanimously approved: February 23, 2006 Regular Meeting March 23, 2006 Regular Meeting Motion carried unanimously. April 27, 2006 Regular Meeting PRESENTATIONS Yol Galik -Craft Instructor: Showed samples of types of crafts that can be made in a craft class. She also holds children's classes. Students pay for class time and materials. Chair Firtell requested a list and pricing of items. • Carol Gould, Ph.D. -Philosophical Practioner: She is a Professor of Philosophy at FAU. Her area of interest is corporate and personal counseling. She could give a presentation and/or have a discussion group. Presentations last approximately 45 minutes to one hour, at $100 per presentation. Arnold Moskowitz - ArtistlTeacher: Teaches charcoal drawing and painting to all ages. Each session is two hours at $20 per student. Showed examples of his work. Chair Firtell asked him to obtain references and give to Mrs. Futernick. GENERAL BOARD INFORMATION Chair Firtell will present to the Commission on June 6 the following: . Date for Light up the Holidays . Selling artwork . Purchasing/renting a piano (upright) for the community room . Place on CH 19 request of a contribution of a piano June meeting cancelled. Will have a Workshop Meeting on July 6 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss 2006-2007 schedule of events. Chair Firtell spoke to Dale Sugerman re: showing DVD's and interviews on Ch 19. Mr. Sugerman has forwarded to Town Commission for consideration. ~~ U • • Society Board May 25, 2006 Page 2 of 2 SPONSORSHIP/FUNDRAISING $18,000 has been donated through fundraising. Mr. Sugerman clarified that if the Board needed funds to purchase equipment for upcoming events, the Town Commission would need to be approached, and that those funds would come from the $18,000 raised. BOARD CORRESPONDENCE None. NEW/OLD/OTHER BUSINESS Reports: Lois Feldman will inquire into using the Steinway store in Boca Raton for a program. Bettie Altman is looking into using a beach front home in HB for a fundraiser. Syril Morss will look into an art group she is involved with, and will obtain general information to present at the July 6 meeting. Mrs. Futernick asked that a stage be considered for the community room, so when concerts are there, the musicians are elevated. Asked if concert by the Klezmer Group could be discussed -will be tabled until July 6. Mrs. Pagliaro looked into using the Holiday Inn as a venue: 50 people/small room/$100. 100 people/large room/$500.
