MINUTES: WORKSHOP MEETING OF THE TOWN COMMISSION - May 20, 1969 • A workshop meeting of the Town Commission was held at the Town Hall and. called. to oxder by Mayor Horton on May 20, 1969 at 7:30 P. M. All the Commissioners were present except Vice Mayor Vedder, who was out of town. Mayor Horton read three air conditioner bids received. and Comm. Beekman made a motion to proceed. with the Modern Roofing bid. Comm. Hackman se- conded. and, it was unanimsusly passed. The Mayor read a letter from ~t- torney Poulton in regards to dec]~ng of the tax roll because personal property taxes were not included. This means that the cigarette taxes would, not be refunded. to the Town nor any state funds be received. Since the cigarette tax doesn't amount to much, the opinion was that it would be a nuisance and. too much work to collect personal property taxes. An- other letter stated an appeal from Aguirre Corp. in their suit and does the Commission want Mr. Poulton to represent the Town at a $600. fee? Mayor Horton read, a letter dated~(ay 14th titled.: From one who wants to keep the Town a place to live, not work; concerning the cars parked. along AlA at 3419 S. Ocean on Monday and. Wednesday nights, for business not social gatherings. The letter was unsigned. and. becuuse it is against the State law to park on a state road. right of way, the Mayor asked for sug- gestions. Comm. Hackman suggested Mr. Crego talk to the owner or neigh- bors fog specific information. There was a letter from Wm. Hill, County engineer regarding road. construction proposals for the new County budget. The Commission had. none. The Mayor has asked the Town attorney to write • boarding up. Mayor Horton reported. the Jupiter-Tequesta Chamber of Com- ~ ~ merce has arranged. for a meeting at FAU~fay 23rd entitled. Sewer Systems of the East Coast of Florida and. their impact on health and natural re- sources; to exchange technical information and to provide factual infor- mation to the public and. press. The Commission is invited. to attend. Mayor Horton reported that Mr. Klinck received a letter from a state agency saying that before they will approve construction of a sewer line the Town will have to treat sewerage to the extent that floatable solids and. grease will be removed.. Mr. Klinck has sent a letter stating objec- tions as being discriminat©ry. This could stop sewer construction for the times being. Most of the donations from the builders have been invested and. another offer was received. from Boca-Hi for a donation of $ 36,00.0,. covering 240 units of their Phase 1. That makes a total of $ 186,000 to- ward. the sewer system. Comm. Hackman said that three men will now be available for the Water Plant operation and requested. the fee be in- creased. 1/3. It will be brought u~ at the next Town meeting. Highland Towers and the Carlton House are supposed. to have their own booster pumps but the Town pressure will be increased.. More volunteer firemen are needed and. several names were discussed to be contacted. Comm. Hackman added that the cost of additional street lights are $250. a year for four lights each on Bel Air and. Highland. Beach Dr. The specifications for Russell Rd. were inspected.. Comm McCook asked. about the check from Winterhalter Inn for a liquor license and. was informed. that an area couldn't be found in which Mr. Jurisch doesn'y comply. Comm.
