2008.03.27_CAB_Minutes_Regular• CULTURAL BOARD TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 27, 2008 9:30 A.M. Chair Emily Firtell called the regular meeting to order at 9:45 a.m. In attendance were Vice Chair Riia Futernick, George Kelvin and Myrna Resnick. Sheila Kallman, Lois Feldman and Bettie Altman were absent. ' OLD BUSINESS / GENERAL BOARD INFORMATION Fundraising letter went out and was very successful. Stan will be giving the total amount of donations as soon as he has it all totaled. Coin Show — Very interesting, demonstrated coins, very informative, thank you Patrick. Local Art Show — Great response. Paul Golden — Success, town residents loved it. • Plaque information is in, thank you for all the donations. NEW BUSINESS Work out the 2008 — 2009 calendar Barbara Kelly - Seagate Choral Group has expressed interest in performing at the 2008 L.U.T.H. L.U.T.H. — Tentatively scheduled for Sunday, December 74, or Sunday, December 14, 2008. Cultural Board will give the choice of dates to the Commission. The Board will also look into the possibility of having the sound truck provide extra lighting and possibly more chairs too George Kelvin will let Jo Dolce know the dates for L.U.T.H. as well as Father Grace. The next Cultural Board meeting the board will be going into committees for planning upcoming functions. NEW BUSINESS Very successful year, everyone has learned and grown. Suggestion — do fewer but bigger events this year. Four events December, January, • February and March, big events outdoors? • CULTURAL BOARD 3/27/08 MEETING MINUTES PAGE 2 OF 2 The Cultural Board wants to accommodate more people; Kim will get pricing information for tents. Emily will talk to Paul Cohen to see if he wants to return for January. The tentative dates for the 2008 — 2009 calendar are as follows: December 2008 — L.U.T.H. January 12, 2009 — Paul Golden February 9, 2009 — Sweetheart Concert — Josephine Dolce March 9, 2009 — Swing Jazz, Dancing Under the Stars These are pending Commissions approval. Chinese New Year — Riia will get more information on the possibility of Cultural Board hosting event. Art classes will be ongoing throughout the year Local Art Show — 3/l/09 — 3/31/09 • Cultural Board is still looking into the possibility of having a town fundraising cookbook, as well as perhaps holding a cold cooking class / demo or nutrition class. All upcoming events information / flyers will be given to Mr. Kelvin all at once to have signs prepared. The Board has asked that once the 2008-2009 calendar is complete that there be no add on. BOARD REPORTS Riia Futernick — Reservation policy is working well, pretty much full for all events. Waiting list of 50-100 people. Riia will continue to be reservation person. George Kelvin — Art show went smoothly, the one picture submission was fine, nice selection of art on exhibit. Will be taken down Monday, March 31, 2008 at 10:00 am. The artist will need to sign off that they have removed their artwork from the premise. Myrna Resnick — Paul Golden was successful, Jerry has to set up the chairs, thank you Jerry. What can we do to ensure that the chairs are set up as needed?
