2008.06.26_CAB_Minutes_Regular• CULTURAL BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES June 26, 2008 9.30 a.m. Chair Emily Firtell called the Regular Meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were Chair Firtell, Members Lois Feldman, George Kelvin, Myrna Resnick, Sheila Kallman and Rene Yucht. Approval of Minutes Minutes pending. New/Old Business General Board Information Chair Firtell welcomed Rene Yucht to the Board. Acknowledged re -appointment of herself and Lois Feldman for another 3 year term. Bettie Altman will be living out of state for six months at a time, and will not longer be able to serve on the Board. She was to write a letter of recommendation which Chair Firtell has not received, but in the meantime Mrs. Altman has missed 3 consecutive meetings which removes her from the Board automatically. Ms. Firtell noted the article in the Highlander highlighting the Cultural Board. Also Judy Brodman who does the CB newsletter was mentioned, as was a memoriam for Riia Futernick. Also all classes are in the newsletter as well as channel 19 at 6:00 p.m. for the Cultural Hour. • Ms. Firtell presented 2008-2009 Calendar to the Commission at their 6/24 Workshop Meeting. There were not questions or concerns, and will go on their consent agenda, but would like to start working on the events today on the basis that the calendar will be approved next week. After reviewing the calendar, the following issues were discussed: . Ms. Firtell would like one person to head each event, but have everyone's assistance for the events. . LUTH — Ms. Firtell will chair and will have a list of what needs to be done for discussion at the July meeting. Emily will update the signs for Town Hall coordinate the trolley. She has obtained the Seagate Corral and will speak to Joe Dolce. . SWEETHEART CONCERT with Josephine Dolce — February 9. Use of the community room has been confirmed with the Library for that date. Lois Feldman will chair and will have list of what needs to be done for the July meeting. . LOCAL ART SHOW — Month of March — George Kelvin will chair. He does not feel he will need that much assistance, but will have a list of some duties for the July meeting. . DANCING UNDER THE STARS — March 15 — Rene Yucht and Emily Firtell will Chair together. CHANNEL 19 - Riia Futernick used to monitor Channel 19, 6:00 p.m. on an occasional basis. Sheila Kallman and Myrna Resnick will now do this on an alternate schedule. WEEKLY ART CLASSES — Riia also was the contact person for the Weekly Art Classes to answer any questions that may arise from residents and be a contact for the instructors. • Myrna Resnick and Sheila Kallman will be the contact persons. .%4 • Cultural Board June 26, 2008 Page 2 of 2 Light up the stars — the 17 piece band does not need a sound system, but vocalist will need a microphone and two amplifiers. Emily will ask the band if they need a sound system. Lois is maintaining the list of committee volunteers. Asked everyone to obtain two names each and have names available at the July meeting. Gladys Newmarks beading class will resume in September. Board Reports Emily will make some inquiries about placing Judy Brodman on the board in some capacity. Myrna working on the recognition plaques for donors, and Lois Feldman will assist her. They are looking for examples for the wording on the top of the plaque, and will bring some samples to the next meeting. Also will memorialize the two prior board members. Public Comments Tony Ruotolo, Coronado, expressed a desire to be on the Board, noting that he has an application on file with the Town. . Mari Suarez noted that there is now a permanent stage in the community room.
