2008.07.24_CAB_Minutes_Regular• CULTURAL BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES July 24, 2008 9.30 a.m. Chair Emily Firtell called the Regular Meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were Chair Firtell, Members Lois Feldman, George Kelvin, Myrna Resnick, Sheila Kallman and Rene Yucht. Approval of Minutes Upon MOTION by Mrs. Kallman/Mrs. Resnick, the minutes of the May 22, Regular Meeting and the June 26, 2008 Regular Meeting were unanimously approved. New/Old Business Continued Discussion re 2008/2009 Calendar: Chair Firtell asked the Board about starting a "National Holiday Program", with July 4, 2009 being a starting event. Mrs. Kallman noted that at her synagogue this past July 4, the movie "1776" was shown, with refreshments served, and said there was a very good turnout. The Board liked this idea, as the event could be indoors in air conditioning, and could be at a time as to not interfere with any outdoor evening plans residents may have. A "flag cake" could be served along with coffee or ice tea. • Chairman Firtell will present this idea to the Town Commission. It was suggested to have a Memorial Day affair, but the board decided to start with July 4 h and in time could add additional National Holiday Programs. There was unanimous approval to add this to the 2009 calendar of events. Lois Feldman is looking into organizing a Socratic Cafe. Rene Yucht will be in charge of publicity — she will keep the Sunday Community Section of the Sun Sentential informed of upcoming planned events. Recognition Plaques: Myrna Resnick said that she contacted Action Awards in Boca Raton and obtained the following information: 84 plate plaque. There will also be a memoriam for Jack Glazer and Riia Futernick. The plaque company can lay out as to where this part should go. Chair Firtell spoke about the Milani Park project, and suggested that some cultural history and background be displayed. It was decided to wait and see what the county presents to the Town Commission, and what the Town approves. General Board Information Carolyn Ordower is going on vacation and will resume her art classes in September. The instructors should be self promoting and make their own flyers. Molly Trolleys has been scheduled for LUTH and Emily will present the July 4t' celebration to the Town Commission. As a recap, Lois will maintain the volunteer list, Rene' will handle • publicity, and Myrna and Sheila will work on the recognition plaque. Appointment of a Vice -Chairman. Upon MOTION by George Kelvin/Sheila Kallman, Lois Feldman was appointed as Vice -Chairman. Motion carried unanimously. Board Reports Lois Feldman spoke about the Brandies National Committee Group — she is a member and received their summer study group guide, and thought if the Board wanted to hold another musical next year, this may be a group to look at. The Board all agreed that this should be looked into, and Mr. Kelvin suggested a CD be obtained in order to hear the group. Mrs. Resnick noted that the group has performed in her building, and is well worth obtaining. George Kelvin commented about channel 19, and feels that current Town news should run at the top of the hour. Myrna Resnick suggested the 6:00 p.m. cultural hour be changed to an earlier time, perhaps 5:00 p.m. when residents are home, and before going out for the evening. This was agreed to, and Mr. Kelvin will ask Zoie to make this change. Public Comments — None. n U • Cultural Board July 24, 2008 Page 3 of 3 Adjournment: With no further business to come before the Board, Motion to Adjourn was made at 10:45 a.m. by Mrs. Kallman/Mrs. Resnick.
