CULTURAL BOARD
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
August 28, 2008 9:30 a.m.
Chair Emily Firtell called the Regular Meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were
Chair Firtell, Vice Chair Lois Feldman, Members George Kelvin, Myrna Resnick, Sheila
Kallman and Rene Yucht.
Changes to the Agenda: Chair Firtell requested changing the agenda to discuss General
Board Information before New/Old Business. This was unanimously agreed upon.
Approval of Minutes
Upon MOTION by Mrs. Kallman/Mr. Kelvin, the Minutes of the July 24, Regular
Meeting were unanimously approved.
General Board Information
Chair Emily Firtell -
1. Emily will be transmitting to Zoie Burgess an article re the Cultural Board for the
upcoming Highlander Newsletter. The newsletter also publishes the Cultural
Board calendar.
2. A deposit has been made to Paul Cohen for the Swing Jazz concert.
• 3. E-mailed Mayor Jim Newill re the 4`h of July celebration, but has not heard back
from him yet.
4. Waiting to hear back from Joe Dolce re her participation in LUTH this season.
5. Needs to get in touch with Barbara Kelly, Seagate Coral group. Asked Jane to
look in the files for her phone number.
6. Having problems running the art classes through the summer, as instructors and
students go on vacation. Mr. Kelvin suggested having art classes without an
instructor — students get together as a group, at no charge to anyone.
7. Emily asked Myrna and Sheila to contact the teachers and obtain a list of phone
numbers and e-mail addresses.
8. Cultural hour on Channel 19 has been moved from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
9. Fundraising letter will be discussed at the October meeting.
New/Old Business
There was discussion re ordering the donation plaques, with Crown Trophy being
selected as the contractor. Myrna, Sheila and Lois will go to the Trophy shop and place
the order.
LUTH — Committees must be established.
1. Emily will contact Mayor Newill about inviting dignitaries. Father Grace will be
invited to offer the invocation.
2. Insta-Sign will update the date on the banners which we already have.
• 3. Toys -for -Tots — will ask Mayor Newill to invite the Marines.
A mail cart will be decorated for collection of children's toys.

4. Lois will obtain volunteers for the evening of the event.
5. Food needs to be donated/purchased from Publix — cookie platter; cider — Sheila
offered to handle this.
6. George Kelvin will speak to Dale Sugerman about having better lighting for the
musical group.
7. Trolley has already been retained.
8. Lois offered to purchase the paper goods
At the September meeting the Board will discuss volunteers and different ideas to bring
into the celebration. (i.e.) a Santa Clause; fire truck; etc. Emily asked members to give
some thought to ideas.

• With no further business to come before the Board, Motion to Adjourn was made at
10:10 a.m. by Vice Chair Feldman/Mrs. Kallman.
