MINUTES: HIGHLAND BEACH TOWN COMMISSION MAY 3, 1966
The regular monthly meeting was called to order by Mayor Hackman at 7:30 P. M. ,
May 3, 1966. All Commissioners were present.
The minutes of the regular monthly meeting of April 5, 1966, and special meeting
of April 8, 1966, were read and approved on the motion of Commissioner Bunn,
seconded by Commissioner Jones and the affirmative vote of all Commissioners.
Commissioner Johnson read a letter dated April 30, 1966, from Mrs. Marjorie M.
Ross, President of the Highland Beach Apartment Owners Association, requesting
favorable consideration of a lease between the Association and the Town of High-
land Beach, at a rental of $1.00 per year, for use of the Town Hall assembly room
for the purpose of conducting their regular monthly meeting on the second Sunday
of each month from 3:00 P. M. until conclusion and agreeing to assume the responsi-
bility of leaving the room clean and in good order after meetings . After a general
discussion, with audience participation, Commissioner Bunn moved that the request
of the Association for use of the Town Hall be granted, with the lease provision
omitted; that the fixed meeting date be accepted, unless changed by prior notice,
and that the same priviledge should be given to any other non profit town organi-
nation providing the meeting time and purpose had Commission approval.
Commissioner Jones seconded and all Commissioners. voted in the affirmative.
Election Clerk Barrie C. Burnside announced the results of the election reporting
that 55 ballots were voted; 53 regular and 2 absentee as follows:

- Frederick H. Bunn 54 votes
- Harold E. Johnson 54 votes

Mayor. Hackman expressed the thanks and appreciation of the Commission to the
Election Board for their time and service during the election, and to all the voters
who had shown their confidence in the present administration.
Commissioner Bunn reported that explanatory letters had been mailed to all tax
payers asking for subscription to the new bond issue and we are now waiting for
the response. Also, that the court hearing for validation of the bonds had been
set for May 17, 1966, at 9:00 A.M. at Palm Beach County Court House.
Town Manager Dailey advised that the water plant -and fire house plans are completed
and ready for construction bids as soon as the bond monies are available or assured.
Mrs. Betty Roth mentioned that trash and other debris was again being dumped along
Highland Beach and Russell Drives and suggested that penalty signs be posted. It
was agreed that some future action would be taken to stop this practice.
By general agreement it was decided to meet at 12:00 Noon, May 4, 1966, to review,
confirm and certify the election results in accordance with the Town Ordinances.
