1974.01.29_TC_Minutes_Special MINUTES: Special Meeting of the Town Commission, January 29, 1974 A Special meeting was cal7,ed by Mayor Horton, Vice Mayor Dent and Commissioner Gilday to consider and/or take action to adopt, a first reading, of an ordinance to call for a referendum. Mayor Horton called the meeting to order at 7:40 P.M. Present were: Mayor Horton, Vice Mayor Dent and Commissioners Gilday, Joy and Mumford. Mayor Horton read a proposed ordinance which would provide that: A Referendum be held on March 19, 1974, to revise the provisions set forth in Section 1.06, sub-section (2) of the Town's Charter. It was proposed in the said ordinance that the election in May 1974 provide that the elected mayor and commissioners hold office for one year, then elections would be called each year: A mayor and two commissioners be elected in May 1975, the vice-mayor and one commissioner in May 1976, and the term of each office beginning in 1975 be for two years. Discussion of this matter took place. There were in audience several members of Group I, of the Charter Revision Committee, who voted for • this proposed ordinance's provisions. Commissioner Gilday advised that the Chairman of that committee, Senator Hults informed him that the procedures were that any revisions to the Charter should be presented to the entire committee prior to being presented to the Commission. Proposed Charter revisions were to be presented to the entire committee at their next meeting scheduled for February 13, 1974. Also in audience, Attorney Sliney, offered a suggested that all changest to be put before the qualified electors for Charter revisions be set forth in the referendum. There was considerable discussion. of the suggestions and/or questions relative to this matter.
