• MINUTES: SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN COMMISSION - June 4, 1974
At 4:00 P.M., this meeting called by Mayor Gilday and all the members
of the Town Commission was called to order.
Present were: Mayor Gilday, Vice Mayor Joy and
Commissioners, Mumford and Clark.
The Mayor read the purpose for the special meeting, to consider and
interview persons interested in being considered for the vacancy of
Commissioner, the position vacated by Vice Mayor Joy. (Copy of the
notice, Attachment "A", enclosed.)
Mayor Gilday advised the Commission that he had spoken to a very
qualified Condo-owner, relative to the vacancy, but the Mayor
advised that to have an appropriate balance of representation, in
this instance a single-family resident is preferable.
Mayor Gilday read the resume of Mr. Harry Bauer into the records,
copy attached, Attachment "B".
• Mr. Bauer appeared and was interviewed by members of the Commission
and representatives of the Highland Beach Civic League. He was asked
as to whether there would be any conflict as to his business endeavors
and the affairs of the Town. He gave a background of his previous
civic interests. Senator Hults urged the appointment of Mr. Bauer.
*This was also true of Mr. Losee, on behalf of the Civic League.
The resume of Mr. Joseph A. Boscove, (Attachment "C"), a resident
of the Town residing in Bel Lido sub-division, was also read into
the record by Mayor Gilday.
It was pointed out that Mr. Boscove is a full-time employee of I.B.M.,
however, this would not preclude his ability to attend meetings, if
selected. Mr. Boscove was praised for his work on the Planning Board.
There was no decision made as the meeting was not called to nominate
and/or appoint the filling of the vacancy. A consensus of the
Commission was taken and the first order of business to be done at
the Regular Meeting, to be held tonight (June 4) would be to make
the appointment.
