• TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA Minutes of Meeting of Town Commission Special Meeting Se tember 13, 1976 10.00 A M. Meeting called to order by Mayor Morton E. Gilday at 10:00 A.M. The Mayor announced that this meeting had been called to consider various matters. Present were: Morton E. Gilday, Mayor William S. Hults, Vice Mayor Leslie W. Joy, Commissioner Robert D. Clark, Commissioner Absent: Ruth E. Mumford, Commissioner • Also present: Elaine W. Roberts, Town Manager Kenneth Jones, Police Chief Kathryn M. Borgemenke, Town Clerk Police Department - To Fill Impendin Vacancy Mayor Gilday announced that Mr. Miles, member of the Police Committee, would be in attendance at approximately 10:15 A.M. Mrs. Roberts announced that she had investigated is the area of the Red Devil Restaurant, Boca Raton.. The restaurant had petitioned to the City of Boca Raton for a reduction in side and front yard set backs. This particular site abuts the Town's Water Treatment Plant. She also called Mr. Saarinen to check over the plot plans and he reported back to Mrs. Roberts that he saw no reason where this petition would affect the Water Plant property. Mayor Gilday read a letter to Chief K. Jones, Highland Beach Police Department, from Patrolman John Ryan .. This was a letter of resignation to become effective September 20, 1976. • At this time the Mayor announced that the Board of Trustees of the Pension Fund met this morning and it was agreed that • Minutes Highland Beach Town Commission Special Meeting September 13, 1976 Page 2 of 3 subject to acceptance of this resignation by the Town Commission any monies due Patrolman Ryan, if requested, from the Pension Fund, will be refunded. Mayor Gilday called for a Motion to accept this resignation as of Monday, September 20, 1976, 8:O1 A.M. MOTION by Commissioner Clark/Vice Mayor Hults: "So moved". ROLL CALL on the Motion Carried 4 - 0. Mayor Gilday asked if the Police Chief had arrived at a recommendation to fill this vacancy, as of October 1, 1976. Chief Jones offered the name of Mr. Frederick E. Simon, • Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. Simon was formerly with the New York City Police Department for a period of approximately twenty (2©) years. He was also employed at the Ft. Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport for three (3) years. Mr. Horton and Mr. Miles concur with the Chief's recommendation. Mayor Gilday introduced Mr. Simon to each member of the Commission. Mayor Gilday noted that Mr. Simon would have to be approved by the State Board of Standards in Tallahassee. Mayor Gilday called for a Motion that Mr. Simon be appointed effective October 1, 1976 and he will serve the usual six (6) months probationary period. MOTION by Commissioner Clark/Vice Mayor Hults: "So move".
