2018.03.22_TC_Minutes_Special TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH TOWN COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING Town Hall/Commission Chambers Date: March 22,2018 3614 South Ocean Boulevard Time: 1:30 PM Highland Beach,Florida CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Carl Feldman called the Special Meeting to order at 1:30 PM. PRESENT UPON ROLL CALL: Mayor Carl Feldman Commissioner Rhoda Zelniker Commissioner Elyse Riesa Town Attorney Pamala Ryan Town Manager Valerie Oakes Town Clerk Lanelda Gaskins MEMBERS ABSENT: Vice Mayor William Weitz Commissioner George Kelvin Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commission, followed by a moment of silence. Civility Pledge: Town Clerk Gaskins recited the Civility Pledge. 1. ADDITIONS.DELETIONS OR ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA: The Agenda was accepted as presented. 2. PUBLIC COMMENTS AND REOUESTS: There were comments and requests from the public. Town Commission Special Minutes Date: March 22,2018 Page 2 of 4 Town Commission recognized and welcomed Susan Haynie, Mayor of the City of Boca Raton for being at the meeting today. 3. DECLARING THE MARCH 13.2018 ELECTION RESULTS: Town Clerk Gaskins read the title of Resolution No. 18-004 R into the record. RESOLUTION NO. 18-004 R A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON MARCH 13, 2018; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. Town Manager Oakes presented this item. Town Clerk Gaskins read the Official Results of the March 13, 2018, election into the record. MOTION: Commissioner Riesa moved to approve Resolution No. 18-004 R. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Zelniker. UPON ROLL CALL: Commissioner Riesa - Yes Commissioner Zelniker - Yes Mayor Feldman - Yes Motion passed on a 3 to 0 vote. 4. SWEARING IN OF NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS: A) Vice Mayor Alysen A.Nila B) Commissioner Peggy Gossett-Seidman Town Clerk Gaskins administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected officials. 5. SEATING OF NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS: A) Vice Mayor Alysen A. Nila B) Commissioner Peggy Gossett-Seidman Both Vice Mayor Nila and Commissioner Gossett-Seidman were presented with Certificates of Election and took their seat on the dais. REPORTS—TOWN COMMISSION: A) Commissioner Peggy Gossett-Seidman thanked all the residents who voted for her, and supported her in the election. She also thanked her family and friends for their support as well as the Town Manager, Town Clerk and staff for their help. She stated her goals as Commissioner. B) Commissioner Elyse Riesa thanked the residents. She congratulated Vice Mayor Nila and Commissioner Gossett-Seidman on their appointments. C) Commissioner Rhoda Zelniker also thanked the residents and congratulated both Vice Mayor Nila and Commissioner Gossett-Seidman on their newly elected position. D) Vice Mayor Alysen A. Nila thanked all the residents for their support and stated her goals as Vice Mayor. E) Mayor Carl Feldman read words written by Mother Theresa into the record. Town Manager Oakes welcomed Vice Mayor Nila and Commissioner Gossett-Seidman. She encouraged everyone to join in the celebration in the Town Hall lobby after the meeting. Town Clerk Gaskins congratulated Vice Mayor Nila and Commissioner Gossett-Seidman. She reminded the residents about the Spring Fling Community Event on Saturday, March 24th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Mayor Feldman encouraged the residents to attend the Spring Fling, enjoy the food, fun and make use of the free shredding being offered. MOTION: Commissioner Riesa moved to adjourn the meeting at 1:55 PM. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Zelniker.
