SPECIAL MEETING/CANVASSING BOARD
Wednesday, March 11, 1987 1:00 P.M.
The Special Meeting of the Town Commission/Canvassing Board was called
to order by Mayor Edward J. Sullivan in the Town Commission Chambers at
Town Hall. Also present were Vice Mayor Mary Louise Blosser and Town
Commissioners John J. Basso and Betty Jean Stewart. Commissioner
William A. Grier was absent.
Also present were Town Attorney Thomas E. Sliney, Town Manager Hugh D.
Williams, Town Clerk Mary Ann Mariano and members of the general
public.
Mayor Sullivan noted that the purpose of the meeting was to adopt a
Resolution to declare. the office of Mayor filled, and for the purpose of
certifying the results of the March 10, 1987 Municipal Election as
provided for in the Town Charter.
The Clerk then read the results of the March 10, 1987 Municipal Election
as follows:
Abe Futernick 231
Robert M. Gregerson 560
David T. Robinson 785
Robert F. Scholz 744
Ballots Cast Regular 1,202
Absentee 44
1,246
A copy of the Town Clerk's memo and supporting documentation is attached
to and made a part of these Minutes.
At the request of Vice Mayor Blosser, her memorandum to the Town
Attorney dated 3/4/87 is herewith attached and made a part of these
Minutes. Further attached is the Town Attorney's response to such
memorandum dated March 9, 1987.
MOTION was made by COMMISSIONER BASSO/COMMISSIONER STEWART to certify
the results of the March 10, 1987 election and declare that David T.
Robinson and Robert F. Scholz were the winners. Vice Mayor Blosser
stated that due to the eligibility question regarding Mr. Robinson's
candidacy, she was voting no. The Mayor and remainder of the Town
Commission voted aye, with the MOTION carrying 3 to 1.
The Town Clerk then administered the Oath of Office to Commissioners
Robinson and Scholz.
The next item taken up by the Town Commission was:

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING
THE ELECTION TO HAVE BEEN HELD ON THE 10th DAY OF MARCH, 1987,
FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR TO BE UNNECESSARY SINCE THE ONLY
CANDIDATE WHO QUALIFIED IS UNOFPOSED.
The Town Clerk read the foregoing Resolution which declared the e ection
for Mayor to be unnecessary and further declared that the only ca didate
who filed for the office of Mayor, named Betty Jean Stewart, was amed
Mayor of the Town of Highland Beach.
MOTION was made by COMMISSIONER BAS50/VICE MAYOR BLOSSER to adopt the
Resolution. This MOTION carried unanimously with favorable votes
The Oath of Office was then administered to Mayor Stewart by the own
Clerk.
Mayor Stewart then made some comments thanking those who supporte her
and stated that she was looking forward to working together with he
residents to provide good government for the Town of Highland Bea h.
There being no further business to come before this Special
MeetingjCanvassing Board, this meeting was adjourned at 1:10 P.M.
