TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA
Minutes of Meeting of Town Conut~ission
SPECIAL MEETING
Wednesday, July 6, 1988 3:30 P.M.
A Special Meeting of the Town Commission was called to order by Mayor
Betty Jean Stewart in the Town Commission Chambers at Town Hall at 3:30
P.M. Also present were Vice Mayor John J. Basso, Comn-issioners David T.
Robinson, Robert F. Scholz and Doris R. Rome.
Also present were Town Manager Mary Ann Mariano, Town Engineer Dr. Ed
Wetzel and Deputy Town Clerk Anne M. Kowals.
It was noted that this Special Meeting was called for the purpose of
~t~odifying the request for water from the City of Boca Raton and for the
appropriation of funds for the required modeling.
Dr. Wetzel explained that in his review of the Town's needs for long
tern- water, it is his recommendation that Highland Beach could modify
its initial request for 3 MGD to 2 MGD at the Appleby Street connection
plus peak shaving amounts up to 800,000 GPD at the A--1-A connection.
A cost figure of $15,000. for computer rt~odel study, was provided by
Boca's Engineers (CDM) to Dr. Wetzel for the purpose of updating Boca's
. model of its water transmission pipelines. The computer model will
deter~~ine if Boca Raton, without n-odifying its system, can provide water
to Highland Beach. It was noted by the Town Manager, however, that this
figure had not been confirmed through the City of Boca Raton. Dr.
Wetzel noted that the work that needs to be done on the nodeling is for
the benefit of Boca Raton (the additional work that Highland Beach would
require is a small part of that) and the cost, which was not to exceed
$15,000., could be negotiated.
Following discussion, VICE MAYOR BASSO/COMMISSIONER ROME MOVED that the
Town not exceed $15,000. to update the computer ~t~odel of the Boca Raton
system. The MOVE carried unanimously with all five Members casting
'AYE' votes.
COMMISSIONER ROME/VICE MAYOR BASSO MOVED that the Town change its
request to Boca for water from 3 MGD to 2 MGD and also the .peak shaving
water emergency to be allocated by Boca. The 2 MGD will cone through an
interconnect to Appleby Street and the peak shaving to come through the
interconnect on A-1-A. A roll call vote resulted in five favorable
votes; the MOVE carried unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Town Commission at
this time, upon proper MOTION, Mayor Stewart adjourned the Special
Meeting of the Town Conut~ission at 3:55 P.M.
