MINUTES OF THE
BEACHES & SHORES ADVISORY BOARD
WORKSHOP MEETING
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 9:30 AM
Members Present: Chair Lucy Miller, Vice Chair Ruth Samuels, Board Member Betty
Hofstadter, Board Member Svenstrup and Board Member Evelyn Weiss.
Members Absent: Board Member Barbara Zeeman (excused).
Also Attending: Deputy Town Clerk Valerie Oakes.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Miller called the Workshop Meeting to order at 9:30 AM. Roll Call was taken by
Deputy Town Clerk Oakes.
Deputy Clerk Oakes distributed a copy of an article from the Palm Beach Post regarding
turtle nesting in Boca Raton. Chair Miller stated that the article is not accurate because
Highland Beach's highest numbers for turtle nesting were this year.
• OLD BUSINESS:
Town Commission Presentation on MSTU
The board discussed the following key points:
• Mention previous presentation to the Town Commission.
• Discuss the three possible scenarios for maintaining clean, healthy beaches.
• Give a recommendation and explain the goal(s).
• Submit request for the approval of funds to hire an economist.
• Report on the petitions received.
• Include a list of economists with information and price guesstimate.
• Give an estimated annual cost to maintain the beaches three times a week.
Review RFP (Beach Maintenance Companies)
The board reviewed the request for proposals from the beach maintenance companies for
informational purposes only.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Joint Meeting with the Planning Board
The Board would like to schedule a meeting on Friday, November 13, 2009, at 1:30 PM.
The Deputy Town Clerk will confirm with the Planning Board.

MOTION: Board Member Weiss moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:40 AM. Vice
Chair Samuels seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
