Evelyn Ruth S~ Gary L, Attest: Absent i~~ ~ ~ ; MINUTES -WORKSHOP (Martha's Notes) Date: June 26, 2007 Present: Betty Jane, Ruth, Gazy, Evie, Martha Absent: Lucy Visitor: Rachel Pistone Records: Tape recorded & attended by Kim Focus for this workshop -the discussiodrevision of beach maintenance concerns and objectives to be presented on July 3`~ by the B & S Board to the Town Commi.~~ion. Martha explained that Lucy had called eazly in the morning because unexpected and demanding circumstances prevented her from attending today's session. Since Lucy's draft of the presentation to the Commission could not be discussed today, the attendees agreed that the presentation should be postponed to Au~zrsv 7`r'. (Different dates were discussed; we agreed on the August regulaz session of the Town Commission.) Ruth Samuels had prepared a concise yet explicit version of standazds for beach maintenance based on agreements from previous Board sessions. It was discussed. The consensus was to: 1. Emphasize in our objectives the ~r-esezvation of sea nrz•rles, because it is an important County and State concern. ~ " 2. Limit to beach cleanup the scope of this document and of our presentation to the Town Commission, because: • It simplifies the message • • The frame of reference is familiaz to everyone and easier to achieve • If successfully implemented, it could facilitate the path to more complex tasks such as re- nourishment and erosion control • Our informal survey of beach-side residences showed that the beach cleanup methods and frequencies presently used, if any, are inconsistent; it also shows that a large majority supports beach cleanup • Town residents are complaining about our beaches being unclean -this provides strength to our message. Important for residents dissatisfied with beach cleanliness to come to the Commission Meeting of August ~.
