• TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH BEACHES ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, February 14 2006 9.30 A M Chair Lucy Miller called the meeting attendance were Betty Jane Hofstadter, James Wanat and Evelyn Weiss. Beverly APPROVAL OF MINUTES There were no minutes to be approved. NEW BUSINESS to order at 9:30 a.m. In Ruth Samuels, Martha Pando, Barr was absent. Ken Spole offered a presentation on the troubled mangroves. Mr. Superman explained the layout of the mangroves behind St. Lucy church and behind and between the Coronado and the Casuarina. He noted that the county owns some of these mangroves and may build a walk out through their property to the intracoastal. There was lengthy discussion re Mangroves, Beach Preservation and Intracoastal Waterway, with three recommendations going to the Town Commission (attached hereto and made a part of these minutes.) Mrs. Pando discussed the activities report of 2005 which also reflected items to be looked into in 2006. Evie Weiss and Jose will hold a team leader meeting of the turtle volunteers. Create a special enforcement of the mangrove district. . Establish a program for regulation of mangrove maintenance based on the Florida Statute mangrove trimming and preservation act (FS 403.9321 - 403.9333). Beach Preservation . Recommend a beach preservation study be done by Coastal Planning & Engineering • (total cost to be $1,892.50.) Intracoastal Waterway ' . Recommend that the Town join the Boca Raton Marine Advisory Board, which is leading an effort in keeping the intracoastal clean. The name of the organization is Lagoonkeepers.org. _ _.
