2004.08.10_BSAB_Minutes_RegularTOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH BEACHES ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, August 10, 2004 9:30 A.M. Chair Lucy Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Also in~ attendance were Vice-Chair Matthew Berman, Evelyn Weiss, Betty Jane Hofstadter, Ruth Samuels, Martha Pando and Jean Ellis. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There were no minutes for approval. NEW BUSINESS Dan Bates of the Department of Environmental Resource Management presented an update on the beach study and recorded actions which he conducted. Mr. Bates distributed a coastal map showing the areas where invasive plants are located. Upon MOTION by MRS. ELLIS/MRS. PANDO a recommendation will be sent to the Town Commission that the Board take on the project for Highland Beach of coordinating with all of the beach property owners, based on the dune vegetation survey • that was done by Dan Bates in June 2004, to coordinate and implement the removal of the exotic and invasive plants and replace with approved plants. MOTION carried by unanimously. The Board will also recommend to the Town Commission that Martha Pando act as an alternate representative to the Palm Beach County Coastal Council. Discussion about a liaison to Jose was discussed. This would be someone to coordinate between the turtle program and Beaches and Shores Board. Upon MOTION by MRS. WEISS/MRS. MILLER Jean Ellis will be the temporary liaison. She will look into obtaining a copy of the permit, who is assigned to each zone and when the next sea turtle symposium is. She will also talk to Jose about the Board taking over the sea turtle program. It was also noted that there should be a meeting with the turtle volunteers. ADJOURN with no further business to come before the Board, Motion to adjourn was made by MRS. PANDO/MRS.
