BEACHES ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING

Chair Lucy Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Also in
attendance were Vice-Chair Matthew Berman, Evelyn Weiss, Martha
Pando, Betty Jane Hofstadter, Jean Ellis and Ruth Samuels.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Upon MOTION by MRS. WEISS/MRS. HOFSTADTER, the minutes of the March
20, 2004 meeting were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS
Dan Bates of the Department of Environmental Resource Management,
was invited to the meeting to discuss Beaches in general. He noted
that there are nine beach nourishment projects underway in Palm
Beach County. Mr. Bates noted that the dunes are in good shape, and
there was discussion of proper dune plantings. The Boca
renourishment project was discussed and the possibility of the sand
being dredged off Highland Beach. Chair Miller stated that she
would like to walk the Highland Beach with Mr. Bates.
• Vice Mayor Asselta spoke on the Mangrove issues and what needs to be
done to keep them flushed out and healthy.
Jack Halpern stated that he will be attending meetings in Boca to
keep abreast of the dredging issues.
The following issues were also discussed:
. Keeping tractors off beach during turtle season
. How beach would be best cared for
Send a recommendation to the Town Commission recommending the Town
provide beach cleaning services, and reasons why.
ADJOURN
With no further business to come before the Board, Motion to adjourn
was made by MRS. HOFSTADTER/MRS. PANDO at 11:05 a.m.
(Note: After the meeting adjourned a special meeting was scheduled
for May 18 to discuss the beach raking recommendation to be
submitted to the Town Commission.)
