Chair Lucy Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. In attendance were Vice-Chair Matthew Berman, Evelyn Weiss, Martha Pando, Betty Jane Hofstadter and Jean Ellis. Ruth Samuels was absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon MOTION by MRS. ELLIS/MRS. WEISS, the minutes of the March 13, 2004 meeting were unanimously approved. NEW BUSINESS Jack Halpern, 4511 S. Ocean Blvd. , made the Board aware of vibra core sampling (collecting sand samples) being done off the coast of Jap rock by Coastal Planning & Engineering of Boca Raton. There will be future dredging for renourishment of the north Boca beaches, and the board is concerned that the dredging would affect the beach in Highland Beach. Jack Halpern will obtain a timeline from Boca Raton and acquire more information as to what is occurring. • OLD BUSINESS The memorandum of suggested recommendations to the Town Commission was reviewed. The section re placement of trash bins was removed. Welcome to Highland Beach was changed to Entering Highland Beach. The following MOTION was made by MRS. ELLIS/MRS. WEISS: THE BEACHES ADVISORY BOARD APPROVES RECOMMENDATIONS, ALSO CHANGING "WELCOME" TO "ENTERING" HIGHLAND BEACH. (attached) MOTION met with unanimous approval. The members continued discussion of placement of the trash cans. Lucy Miller will contact several turtle volunteers who will help to determine the placement of the receptacles. The Town Commission approve the placement of "Entering Highland Beach" signs at the North and South beach entrances to the Town. 2. The Town Commission pass an ordinance requiring that any beach rakers place identification and phone numbers on their tractors. Also, all beach rakers should be registered with the Town. 3. The Town Commission moves and votes to request signs from the State which reference State statutes regarding sea turtles (to be used at turtle nests). • 4.
