1970.06.23_TC_Minutes_Workshop MINUTES: WORKSHOP MEETING OF THE TOWN COMMISSION - June 23, 1970 A workshop meeting of the Town Commission was held following the Special meeting on June 23, 1970. Mayor Horton and Commssioners Beekman and Jurisch were present. Mayor Horton said that letters will be sent to all who replied to the ads for utilities operators, thanking them for replying. Mayor Horton said that he has received several phone calls regarding the new assessments on property in the Town which have been raised. The Town attorney will be asked to draw up a resolution to, oppose the higher reassessments because only sections of the county were completed and the consenses is that this is inequitable. By the regular meeting more infor- mation should be available for definite action. Mayor Horton reported receiving a letter from the Palm Beach County Red Cross requesting a representative from the Town at a meeting on Wed., June 24, 1970. The Mayor asked for a volunteer, but there was no reply. A litter was received in Town Hall from Broward Williams regarding the availability of Flood insurance. Mayor Horton said the Town insurance agent will be consulted, as well as soliciting assistance from any Town resident who was in the insurance business. Further discussion will be held at the regular meeting. The Mayor informed those present that information was obtained from the postmaster in Delray regiding getting a higher return from the government for operating the post office in Town Hall. This will be discussed further. Mayor Horton stated that the appeal concerning the Aguirre case was de- cided in favor of�the Town. Mayor Horton said the speeding and drag racing in Town has abated since hiring the Town Marshall and that he has done a good job despite his limitations, on arrest powers and the reluctance of Boca or Delray to allow use of their jail Facilities. Comm. Jurisch suggested using the planning committee for help in establishing a jail in the future. The Mayor suggested hiring a full time one man police force in the future. The cost of this is not practical now but something further will have to be done when Security Detective's contract expires in about 5 months. Comm. Beekman has found a suitable momento to honor the Town's former Mayors and will have these made for presentation. Discussion was held regarding permits for fires on the beach which the fire department refuses to issue. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P. M. APPROVED: ATTEST. Town Dated: �
