Dear Sirs:
Your editorial of October 29, 1993 captioned
"CVuVISSIOiV O.R VOTERS SHOULD ACT TO LIMIT LOCAL POLITICIANS'
TERiJIS" was quite apropos. I sincerely hope that our State
Legislature, cities and municipalities and especially voters
will take cognizance of the valid and cogent reasons which
you outlined as to why terms of our elected officials, as
well as certain County administrative officers, should be
limited.
However, I was somewhat disappointed that you did
not mention that the Tov~m of Highland Beach(based on my
recommendation) restricted the terms of its Commissioners
to no more than three consecutive two year terms which,
thanks in great part to your editorial sup1oort of February
ltd, 1y93, was approved by over yUjo o~ our voting residents
• in the 1vlarch 1893 referendum. Moreover, in k'ebzu~ry__: 1993..
I proposed legislation to restrict the terms of members
appointed to each of various Boards to a maximum of six
_._ consecutive years which our Town Commission approved. So
as you can readily observe, Fnie in Highland Beach have
recognized the importance and advisability of term
limitations. Your above editorial deserves support and
follow up, in my personal opinion.
Sincerely
F. Rand
i;ommissioner, Highland Beacl
P.S. By the nay, I'm rather surprized at t'r~e lack of
media attention to the apparent pigeon holing delay
of the implementation of AmencL'nent 10 limiting increase:
in assessed valuation to no more than 3~ in any one
year, despit e aplvroval of it in a voter referendum.
Perhaps an inquiry by the Sun Sentinel might shed
so~~~e light on its status.
