1998.02.18_TC_Minutes_Special + ~ TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA MINUTES OF TOWN COMMISSION MEETING SPECIAL WORKSHOP MEETING Wednesday, February 18,1998 9:55 A.M. Mayor Arlin G. Voress called the Special Workshop to order in the Town Hall Conference Room advising its purpose was to discuss the Dedication Ceremony for the new Town facilities. Town Clerk Doris Trinley Called the roll. The Mayor, Vice Mayor John Rand, and Commissioners David Augenstein and Michael W. Hill were present. Commissioner Thomas J. Reid was absent.} Town Attorney Thomas E. Sliney and Town Managex Mary Ann Mariano were also present. There were no members of the general public present. Substantial discussion took place with consensus of the following: The ceremony will be simple in scope because the Town's 50th anniversary celebration will take place within a year of the dedication. • Wednesday, March 18, will be the target date, if St. Lucy's Church parking lot is available for overflow traffic and the church's pastor, Father Gerald Grace, is available to give the invocation. Town Manager Mary Ann Mariano will coordinate the event. The Town Commission will be responsible for the Dedication Program. Hours will be 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.; the Dedication Ceremony itself and ribbon cutting will take place at 11 A.M., with the Mayor speaking on behalf of the Commission. Cold, luncheon-type refreshments will be served. Invitations will be sent to all residents in a newsletter- like mailing; other municipalities will be invited by FAX. Commemorative writing pens will be presented to each attendee as a memento; a guest book will be provided. Voress called the Special Meeting to order in theTown Hall Conference Room at 9:45 A.M., stating its purpose was to approval of the list of poll workers for the March 10, 1998 Municipal Election as follows: David Forest, Clerk Edith Forest, Inspector Betty Barnes, Inspector Miriam Appelbaum, Inspector Eve Harmel, Inspectpr Alice Schultz, Inspector Town Clerk Doris Trinley called the roll, The Mayor, Vice Mayor John Rand, and Commissioners David Augenstein and Michael W. Hill were present. Commissioner Thomas J. Reid was absent. Town Attorney Thomas E. Sliney and Town Manager Mary Ann Mariano were also present. There were no members of the general public present. After some discussion and upon MOTION by VICE MAYOR/COMMISSIONER HILL, the list as presented was unaimously approved; also included in the Motion was the Commission's approval for the Town Clerk to seek and engage a qualified alternate if necessary. (Copy of the Town Clerk's explanatory memo and the current Supervisor of Elections pay scale for poll workers is attached to and made part of these Minutes.) 'f~ ~'~ /vC'y~ DATE : ~ /~~~ J r r - MEMORANDUM TO: TOWN COMMISSION TOWN MANAGER TOWN ATTORNEY FROM: DORIS TRINLEY (~ TOWN CLERK DATE: FEBRUARY 12, 1998 RE: POLL WORKERS FOR MARCH 10, 1998 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS Because there are no county, or other government, issues to vote on March 10, municipalities who are having elections that date will not receive any kind of assistance from the Supervisor of Elections Office, i.e., securing poll workers, voting machines, etc. will be each municipality's responsibility. As you are aware, the Town will hold an election for Vice Mayor and, therefore, the following list of poll workers, who have agreed to cover that election, is submitted for your . consideration: David Forest, Clerk Edith Forest, Inspector Betty Barnes, Inspector Miriam Appelbaum, Inspector Eve Harmel, Inspector Alice Schultz, Inspector The Town will be responsible for paying each individual; Mr. Forest is entitled to $105.00 and each inspector $80.00, for a total of $505.00. These fees are per the County Supervisor of Elections Poll Worker Pay Schedule for 1998, a copy of which is attached for your information. Also, Mr. Forest has informed me that he and the others would like a letter of commitment from the Town as soon as possible. Therefore, also attached is a copy of a Public Notice for a Special Meeting to consider their approval, which I've scheduled for Wednesday, February 18. 1998 at 9:25 A.M., immediately prior to your Special Workshop Meeting regarding the Dedication Ceremony for the new Town Hall complex.
