Trin/e y, CMC To n Clerk RESOLUT/ON NO. ~ 12 ~, LJ A RESOLUT/ON OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE ELECTION FOR ONE (1l COMMISSION SEAT TO HAVE BEEN HELD ON THE 10TH DA Y OF MARCH 1998, TO BE UNNECESSARY SINCE THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO QUALIFIED lS UNOPPOSED. WHEREAS, the fine/ filing date for the candidates to the office of Commissioner (two-year term) was 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February f0, 1998; and WHEREAS, the only candidate to file during the filing period was namely: JOHN J. SORRELL/; and WHEREAS, Florida State Statute, Chapter 101. 151 (61, states: Except for justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of District Courts of Appea/, the names of unopposed candidates shall not appear on the genera/ election ballot. Each unopposed candidate shall be deemed to have voted for himself; and WHEREAS, the a%ction for one (11 Commission seat, which was to have been held in the Town of Highland Beach, Florida, on the second Tuesday in March, 1998, i.e., March 10, 1998, is now declared to be unnecessary in accordance with Florida State Statute 101.151 (6J as cited above. NOW, THEREFORE, BE /T RESOLVED, by the Town of Commission of the Town of Highland, Florida, that the a%ction for one (11 Commission seal, which was to have been held on March 10, 1998 is unnecessary and she/l not be held; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE /T FURTHER RESOLVED that the candidate who has qualified, namely: JOHN J. SORRELL/ is hereby declared to be a%cted to the office for which he has filed, beginning on March 11, 1998. Trin/e y, CMC Town Clerk ` • RESOLUTION 713 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH, FLORIDA HONORING FORMER VICE MAYOR JOHN F. RAND WHEREAS, John F. Rand has served the Town Commission well for seven (7) years, having first been appointed Commissioner in March 1991; elected Commissioner in March 1992 and again in March 1994; and elected Vice Mayor in 1996; and WHEREAS, previous to service on the Commission, he was a member of the Financial Advisory Board and also served as its Vice Chairman; and WHEREAS, during the course of his long service to the Town, John F. Rand has intelligently and steadfastly participated to ensure and enhance its financial stability through diligent application of his time and talents to its fiscal well-being, including the construction of the new Fire Station and the renovation/expansion of the new Town Hall complex; and WHEREAS, he has also served as liaison to the Building Department; and WHEREAS, the Town has benefitted from John F. Rand's unwavering dedication, leadership, and guidance; and • WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that a measure of appreciation for his abiding and tireless service to be inscribed in the offrcial records of the Town. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this statement be incorporated into the archives and become a permanent record of gratitude to John F. Rand for his long-standing and unselfish commitment to the Town of Highland Beach, and that a copy of this Resolution be presented to him.
