MINUTES OF TOWN COMMISSION MEETING
PUBLIC HEARING/SPECIAL MEETING
Thursday, September 21, 2000 5:01 P M
Mayor Thomas J. Reid called the Public Hearing/Special Meeting to order in Commission
Chambers at 5:01 P.M., advising its purpose was to receive public input and consider
adoption of the fiscal year 2000/2001 budget and the following proposed ordinances:
1) An Ordinance of the Town of Highland Beach, Florida, to effect a tax levy
based upon the 2000 tax roll of the Town of Highland Beach.
2) An Ordinance of the Town of Highland Beach, Florida,
appropriating funds for the fiscal year 2000/2001, beginning
October 1, 2000 and ending September 30, 2001.
The Mayor and Commissioners John J. Sorrelli, Paul R. Kane and Robert L. Lowe were
present. Vice Mayor Michael W. Hill was absent.
• Town Attorney Thomas E. Sliney, Town Manager Ben Saag and Finance Director
Stanley M. Novak were also present, as were members of the general public.
Mayor Reid read both proposed ordinances into the record.
Kathleen Scanlon, Seagate Condominium, questioned why a tax increase was noted in
the required newspaper publication. Mr. Saag responded that the increase noted in the
ad reflected the State's way of calculating new construction, tear -downs and re -builds;
however, the Town's property tax remains the same for the seventh consecutive year,
i.e, 4000 mils. Mr Saag added that the only way Mrs.Scanlon's tax could be increased
is if the County increased her personal property assessment.
MOTION by COMMISSIONER SORRELLI/COMMISSIONER LOWE to adopt the Levy
Ordinance was followed by unanimous favorable roll call vote.
MOTION by COMMISSIONER LOWE/COMMISSIONER SORRELLI to adopt the
Appropriating Ordinance was followed by unanimous favorable roll call vote.
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, Mayor Reid
adjourned the Public Hearing/Special Meeting at 5:15 P.M., upon MOTION by
COMMISSIONER SORRELLIT/COMMISSIONEW LOWE.
