HIGHLAND BEACH
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
MINUTES
November 16, 1998 1:15 p.m.
Chairman Thomas J. Reid called the meeting to order at 1:15 p.m.
Present were the Chairman, and committee members Leonard Bell,
Pat Cayce, Jim Niehof, Victor Napoli and Lillian Heilderberger.
Dan Stump was absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Upon MOTION by MRS. CAYCE/MR. NIEHOFF, the Minutes of the September
18, 1998 were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS
The following items were discussed:
A Town website is being created which will incorporate town
history. Sue Gray spoke to the members re this.
The Members must decide if this is a Town function or an
independent function.
• Prepare a proposal to the Town, using the 50th anniversary as a
vehicle for forming a historical committee of the Town.
. Approve a letter to the residents asking for volunteers, and have
it published as an inclusion in the December Newsletter.
. Propose that the Historical Society be formerly recognized as a
committee of the Town to gather and organize historical
information and that it be a budget item commencing
immediately.
MOTION to present proposal to the Town Commission was unanimously
approved.
Tom Reid has been to Morikauri (sp) Museum to gather history of
the first Japanese settlers; FAU's library and met with Dr.
Kennedy re indian remains which were found in Highland Beach;
Delray Beach Historical Society to gain local historical
information.
. Pat Cacy will look at newspaper clippings in the Town vault.
Delegate a "town crier" in each condo to communicate information
at association meetings.
Mr. Bell will meet with residents who may have an interest in
producing a video history of themselves and their association
with Highland Beach.
. Mr. Napoli will meet with condo managers to encourage their
participation in helping to determine longtime residents.

With no other business to come before the Board, MOTION to adjourn
was made by Mr. Niehoff/Mr. Bell at 2:15 p.m.
