2004.08.17_TC_Minutes_SpecialTOWN OF HIGHLAND BEACH. FLORIDA • TOWN COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2004 1.30 P M Mayor Thomas J. Reid called the Special Meeting to order in Commission Chambers at 1:30 P.M., noting that this was a special meeting to select the finalist for the Town Manager position. Acting Town Clerk Jane Dillon called the roll. The Mayor, Vice Mayor Joseph J. Asselta and Commissioners Robert L. Lowe, Rachael Scala-Pistone and Miriam S. Zwick were present. Town Attorney Thomas E. Sliney and Acting Town Manager Doris Trinley were also present, as were members of the general public. Colin Benzinger of Colin Benzinger & Assoc who has been retained by the Town in its Town Manager search, noted that 21 applicants were narrowed down to eight finalists who are: • Mark Bates, North Ft. Lauderdale A ballot vote was taken, whereby Bates, Klopp and Schofield received four votes each. Evett, Hill, Stewart and Taylor all received three votes, Benford received one vote. Carrie Parker Hill, Village of Golf Keven Klopp, North Miami Paul Schofield, Wellington Thomas Stewart, New Mexico Rex Taylor, Vero Beach A runoff vote was taken among the finalists who received three votes to select two to add to the top finalists, with Hill and Stewart wining the runoff. Taylor was chosen as an alternate. Ballots attached hereto and made a part of these minutes. The five finalists to be interviewed will be: Bates, Hill, Klopp, Schofield and Stewart. (For the record, the following day Stewart dropped out; Taylor was substituted.) Mayor Reid ar;~ended the agenda to suggest that the Town donate $500 or $1,000 to the hurricane (Charley) victims. MOTION was made by COMMISSIONER ZWICK/VICE MAYOR ASSELTA to donate $1,000 to the Salvation Army. Town Commission August 17. 2004 Page 2 of 2 It was confirmed that interviews will be held the morning of August 23, with a Special Meeting to follow the August 31 workshop meeting to select the Town Manager. The Commission thanked Colin his remarkable job in coordinating this effort. Colin also stated that it has been a pleasure to work with the Commission.
